Currently in the United States, Villas-Boas has given fans some hope of better days for Marseille as the team gets ready to face Bordeaux.
Olympique de Marseille coach, Andre Villas-Boas knows the task he has on his hands. Les Phoceens are no longer the force they used to be and will struggle next season. Bringing in new players has proven to be very difficult and Villas-Boas has to make do with players he has for now.
According to Foot Mercato, Marseille have already agreed a deal with Villarreal to bring experienced defender, Alvaro Gonzalez to the Stade Velodrome. However, it appears that the player will sign initially on a season-long loan with an option to purchase.
With the way things are going, Villas-Boas would be okay with it.
Asked about the transfer business, the Portuguese tactician admitted that the club is looking at a few options.
“We are looking for several opportunities. We obviously have to find one or two players in this sector because we only have Bouba, Caleta-Sar and of course Sertic who came back from Zurich. We are going to continue looking for options in this position.”
Argentine striker, Dario Benedetto has also been linked with a move to the Rhone club for some time. And Villas-Boas says that the club is simply waiting for a few matters to be dealt with. However, it is the club’s president who will be in the thick of things in order to finalize a move for a striker.
“I do not know. We have made our offer for Dario and we are waiting for the finalization of this deal. I leave it to Jacques-Henri. He will have a better understanding of how it’s going.”
However, since Marseille are going to face Bordeaux in a warmup game, Villas-Boas will have to rely on Valere Germain to play up front for now.
