The legendary Italian World Cup winner feels that two things need to happen for Sarri to stay at Chelsea and become a success
Maurizio Sarri’s future at Chelsea has been the biggest question mark in recent months. Fans have not completely bought into the Sarri-ball philosophy while a few players have also felt alienated.
Nonetheless, the former Napoli manager’s first year in England should be considered a success. Despite so many issues, Chelsea qualified for the Champions League and also won the Europa League at the expense of Arsenal.
But there are rumors linking the Chelsea manager to a swift return to Italy with Juventus eyeing him as a possible replacement for Massimiliano Allegri.
However, Andrea Pirlo feels that in order to succeed, Sarri needs support from the club’s fan base, especially those who are in the stands every week. The former Milan man also said that Sarri needs to be given more time so that the players get used to his style of football.
“It’s not easy for him (Sarri),” Pirlo told the Daily Mail.
“He needs time to adapt the players to the new system.
“For me he is a very good coach. The supporters have to stay very calm.”
Sarri meanwhile, also feels that he deserves to be given more time but admits that he cannot make a decision on his own.
“I need to talk to the club and make sure I know what I can do for Chelsea and what Chelsea can do for me,” he said.
“I love the Premier League and I’m lucky I’m at Chelsea but at the end of each season you have to sit down and talk.
“In my opinion, I deserve to stay at Chelsea but my opinion is not enough.”
“I have a contract [for another two years]. At the moment, we are talking about nothing.”
