Celtic Football Club have agreed a deal to sign Andrew Gutman from Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Chicago Fire.
Fire’s general manager Nelson Rodriguez confirmed that the 22-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract with the club in favour of joining Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Gutman had a trial in Scotland with Rangers in December, but has opted to play join Old Firm rivals Celtic instead.
Rodriguez said, as quoted by Sky Sports:
“Andrew was offered a contract but chose not to accept it. Instead he decided to go with the offer from Celtic, so good luck to him.”
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed his interest in signing the American left-back last week during the club’s winter training camp in Dubai.
The Scottish champions have been busy in the transfer market, signing forward Vakoun Issouf Bayo, winger Oliver Burke, and striker Timothy Weah during the January window.
Gutman played college football for Indiana University where he was awarded the prestigious 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, before joining Chicago Fire.
