Antero Henrique leaves PSG

It has been reported that PSG will bid adieu to their sporting director who is set to leave the club after almost three years in charge.

According to RMC, Antero Henrique is going to leave PSG. Henrique has already informed his close friends about his decision. French media claims that the Portuguese has been mulling over a departure for quite some time.

Henrique was heavily criticized during the last winter transfer window. During January 2019, a lot of differences between him and Thomas Tuchel came to light. And the future of the PSG sporting director was sealed.

PSG are also ready to welcome back former sporting director Leonardo to the club. Indeed, the Brazilian’s arrival was always going to affect Henrique’s future.

Moreover, Henrique and Tuchel never saw eye to eye. It has been claimed that the Portuguese did not appreciate some of the remarks made by Tuchel in public.

Tuchel made a few comments about the management of the club and Henrique was clearly frustrated at the German because of those comments.

Tuchel was very crucial of the way PSG handled the winter transfer window and was very vocal about it in the media.

“I’m waiting for one (a defensive midfielder) for a few days. I see every day that he’s not there. I looked for him in the showers, in the changing room, in the physiotherapy room. Normally, in this case we should cry. I still hope for a second player but we have to start with a player,” the former BVB boss had said.

Indeed, such sarcastic remarks in front of the media were uncalled for. PSG leadership should have taken charge then but never did. This made it clear to Henrique that he was never going to be as important to the club as the manager.

A parting of ways seemed to be the best conclusion to what could have become a rather toxic relationship between a manager and his sporting director.
