Antoine Griezmann has responded to allegations that Barcelona’s reported pursuit of Neymar has left him feeling nervous.
Two years on from his world-record €222m move, Neymar is keen to leave Paris Saint-Germain for a return to Spain.
Former club Barcelona and Real Madrid are both competing for the forward’s signature this summer. However, reports suggest Neymar prefers a Camp Nou comeback.
The Brazil international previously enjoyed a goal and trophy-laden four-year spell in a Blaugrana jersey. In total, he managed 105 goals and 76 assists in 186 appearances and helped the club win eight trophies.
So, it’s only natural that Barcelona are keen to re-sign their old star before the Spanish transfer window shuts on September 2.
Talks between the Catalan giants and PSG, however, haven’t gone to plan after two failed bids. Apparently, the Ligue 1 champions have rejected a loan offer and a player plus cash deal for Neymar.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi only wants the full €222m he paid for in 2017 back in cash only.
But Barcelona have already spent big in the current transfer window after forking out €255m on Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong, Neto, Junior Firpo, Emerson and Marc Cucurella. Therefore, the chances of them matching PSG’s demands seem remote.
Not helping matters is the increasing likelihood Ousmane Dembele, who joined from Borussia Dortmund for €125m in 2017, is staying put. While hopes of selling club-record signing Philippe Coutinho will hinge on the success of his loan spell at Bayern Munich.
This hasn’t stopped Barcelona’s attempts to sign Neymar, though, as they look to bolster their attack.
But RMC Sport reported that Griezmann isn’t particularly feeling excited about Neymar’s potential arrival. The French outlet claimed the new competition has got him feeling nervous.
In response to this claim, Griezmann wrote on Twitter: “How do you know?”
The World Cup winner is currently preparing for Barcelona’s second game of the new La Liga season against Real Betis on Sunday.
