Barcelona have reportedly pitched Arsenal with an idea of swapping Philippe Coutinho and Matteo Guendouzi, according to shocking claims in England.

With a ballooning wage bill, Barcelona are desperate to get rid of some of their highly-paid assets, and Coutinho should spearhead numerous summer departures.

After enduring mixed fortunes during a season-long loan at Bayern Munich, the Brazilian forward will return to the Camp Nou only to be sold on.

The Catalan side can’t afford Coutinho’s substantial £9million-a-year salary due to a financial fallout of the coronavirus crisis and will be looking to shit hit out as soon as possible.

According to The Independent, Barca have contacted both Arsenal and Tottenham to inform them of their readiness to offload former Liverpool star on favorable terms.

Tottenham came close to signing Coutinho on a season-long loan but eventually pulled the plug on the deal after the player’s wages price them out of the move.

At the moment, Arsenal appear as a more realistic option, especially as the Spanish club would like to get Matteo Guendouzi in return for letting Coutinho return to the Premier League.

Guendouzi has been frozen out of the Gunners squad by Mikel Arteta following an altercation between the two during the Londoners’ 2-1 league defeat to Brighton back in June.

Since the pair has failed to come to terms so far, the 21-year-old deep-lying playmaker could leave the capital as soon as the transfer window reopens for business.

In addition to the Frenchman, Arsenal will have to add the £9million make the deal happen, a scenario that appeals to Mikel Arteta.
