Former player, Jimmy Carter believes that the Arsenal manager, Unai Emery needs to be ruthless when it comes to letting go of deadwood.
Arsenal really need to sell four players as the Gunners prepare for life without Champions League football again. The Gunners don’t have a lot of money in the coffers to make waves in the summer transfer market.
The club therefore needs to sell players in a bid to raise funds. While the likes of Yannick Carrasco, Wilfried Zaha, Kieran Tierney and Yacine Ibrahimi have been linked with a move to the Emirates, the club has to tackle the situation of some of its players.
And Jimmy Carter says that the Gunners boss has to be absolutely ruthless. The former winger says that the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and Mesut Ozil have to be sold.
“I think Hector Bellerin is worth keeping,” he exclusively told Starsport as reported by the Daily Star. “Nacho Monreal, if you’re going to play him at left back, is okay.
“Shkodran Mustafi has got to go. And Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] needs to go.
“Rob Holding I’d keep but Laurent Koscielny isn’t getting younger and you need to watch his fitness. If you lose Sokratis and Mustafi obviously you need someone else in.
“But I’d like to see Holding given a longer run in the side, I know he’s had his injury problems.
“Mesut Ozil I just think has to go. His body language is not right and he looks disinterested. If you’ve got a disinterested player earning that sort of money… Get in touch with clubs in China and see if they want to take him.
“I also don’t think Granit Xhaka is good enough but I’d keep Lucas Torreira – give him another season. By all accounts he’s unsettled though so you need to keep an eye on that situation.
“I think Arsenal have a major rebuilding job, I really do.”
