Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has criticized the decisions made by the referee during their 3-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday
Craig Pawson was the official in charge for the final between Arsenal and City. During the match, Wilshere feels that Pawson’s decisions to have allowed Sergio Aguero’s and Vincent Kompany’s goals were incorrect and that Fernandinho should have received a red card.
Arsene Wenger was heavily critical of Pawson himself after the final and Wilshere posted a message on Instagram, describing his frustration with the officials at the match.
“Hard to put into words my emotions about yesterday,” Wilshere wrote.
“City are a good team and deserved to win yesterday. A lot of people have had their say on us and we have to accept criticism when we lose.
“That being said I can’t accept some of the decisions that went against us yesterday. Whatever you say about the first goal, it’s a foul. The second goal is offside. There should have been a second yellow in the first half.
“Yes this happens in football but it’s still hard to accept. And people will say we are looking for excuses but these are facts. Anyway we need to respond, starting on Thursday. Thanks to all the Gooners for your support and trust me we feel the same but we need to stick together.”
Arsenal will next face City in a Premier League game at the Emirates on Thursday. Having seen Chelsea lose points after their 2-1 defeat at Manchester United during the weekend, the Gunners now have the opportunity to close the gap to the top four to seven points.
