Mikel Arteta is shouldering the responsibility of selecting Arsenal’s summer signings and admits he cannot get it wrong.
Mikel Arteta has faced untold problems at Arsenal in his brief managerial career at the Emirates Stadium.
From recent high priced signings from his predecessor obviously not up to par and trying to keep existing club heroes happy and committed to the Gunners project.
Unai Emery spent big and paid the ultimate price when his new recruits left the club languishing at mid-table.
Arteta’s side is not doing much better, but he has had to deal with a vastly inherited squad. This summer will see his first proper transfer window and the expectations are high.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Spanish tactician admits all the onus is on him to deliver the right payers and in turn the right results.
“I know that the situation that we have at the club and the context that we are in, but the club knows my plan.”
“In January, the situation was that we had to fill some gaps and give some stability to the squad. Now is the moment to make another step forward and improve the squad and the players that we have.”
Arteta insists the final decisions will be his.
“We have a very strong group [working on signings] and the communication is really clear, not only with Raul, Vinai, Huss and Edu but also with the owners about where we want to go.”
“The margin for error is very, very small.”
The question is, just who will Mikel Arteta put his faith in?
