Mikel Arteta is still in close counsel with his mentor and former boss Pep Guardiola, admitting he still regularly turns the Manchester City boss.
Mikel Arteta maybe the manager of a rival team to his old boss and mentor Pep Guardiola, but the Arsenal gaffer still turns to the Manchester City coach in a time of need.
Arsenal and City are obviously Premier League rivals, not that their league positions are even close to comparison. The two giants of English football are also preparing to face off in an FA Cup semi-final too.
Nevertheless, Arteta has no qualms in revealing that when he needs advice or support he turns to the rival team’s boss who is also his mentor.
In an interview reported by Goal, Arteta admits they speak regularly.
“We have spoken a few times in recent weeks.”
“Yeah, he’s a person that I have huge respect and admiration for and we talk about a lot of things.”
“When I need advice or I want him to support me he’s always there and willing to help me. For me, it’s great to have someone like him around.”
“Facing them again in the semi-final is a tricky one but look at the level of the teams who are involved in the competition.”
“If you want to win the title, you have to beat the best teams, and if we want to do that we have to beat City.”
I wonder what they talk about, seen as Pep insists he doesn’t give Mikel advice.
