Mikel Arteta is hungry for FA Cup glory this weekend and urged Arsenal to seize their ‘great opportunity’.
Despite being thrown into the deep end, especially for a first-time manager, Arteta has done a resounding job since replacing Unai Emery in the Arsenal dugout last December.
The Basque coach has introduced a more attractive brand of football and seems to have instilled a feeling of the old Arsenal again.
The squad’s fighting spirit and grit are also back, with Arteta frequently challenging the players to maintain their form long-term.
And despite a lowly eight-place finish in the Premier League, Arsenal have won 15 times in 27 games under Arteta and reached the FA Cup final this month by beating Manchester City 2-0.
Now, with Arsenal’s European fate still in their hands, Arteta has urged his men to capitalize on their big chance by winning a record 14th FA Cup against Chelsea on August 1.
“Well, I need a month probably to get some conclusions!” Arteta told Arsenal.com on his thoughts about the end of his first season.
“Since I arrived here on the 20th of December, so many things happened and so many stones have been in our way but I believe we have done a lot of progress in many situations.
“Around the environment as well that we are creating, the unity that the fans, team and club are showing at the moment and I think we are on a good track.
“We have a great opportunity now to have a good season if we are able to win against Chelsea in the final, lift the trophy and qualify for Europe.”
