Arsenal are holding discussions with Real Madrid regarding the permanent transfer of Dani Ceballos, confirms Mikel Arteta.
After learning that he was surplus to Zinedine Zidane’s requirement at Real Madrid, Dani Ceballos joined Arsenal on a season-long loan deal last summer.
Injury woes and inconsistent performances, however, prevented Ceballos from getting as much playing time as he would have probably hoped for.
This raised doubts as to whether Arsenal would be interested in converting his loan move into a permanent one.
But the midfielder has managed to pick up form since the return of football. A hero in his side’s FA Cup quarterfinals against Sheffield United, he has strung a series of impressive performances together as of late.
Impressed with his development, Mikel Arteta suggests he is keen on having Ceballos in his squad beyond this season while also highlighting his compatriot’s strengths.
“Both clubs have been in communication,” Arteta told reporters after the match against Norwich. [via Evening Standard]
“I really like Dani and what he brings to the team. The running that he’s putting in, the tackles, every time with the interceptions, his desire to win that ball back and help the team.
“He’s improved so much and he looks a really good player at the moment.”
