Arthur Melo insists the entire Barcelona squad and supporters want a Neymar comeback despite the growing unlikelihood of the move going through.
Neymar’s two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain hasn’t gone to plan and he now wants out this summer. It seems he is pushing hard for a return to Barcelona despite leaving them in 2017 for a world-record €222m.
This comes in light of the Brazilian’s recurring foot problems and rumours he’s always been unsettled in France.
Whether or not a Barcelona comeback in the future is feasible, though, remains doubtful. The club’s vice-president Jordi Cardoner finally ruled out a summer reunion with Neymar last weekend, which has allegedly opened the door for Real Madrid to poach him.
There are also doubts over how Barcelona and Neymar will settle their ongoing financial dispute. Currently, they have taken legal action against him over a loyalty bonus they paid him as part of a new contract he signed in October 2016.
But Arthur is convinced the Catalan giants will welcome back his Brazil team-mate with open arms.
“I don’t speak to him about his future because I don’t want to annoy him too much,” said Arthur, according to Sport.
“Everyone asks him about that, but I speak with him about different things. I don’t know if he will come or not, but here we are. Let’s see what happens.
“Myself, the fans, the players and the team would love him back because he’s an amazing player. I really like playing with him for Brazil and I hope I can enjoy [playing with him] here, too.”
While the Neymar transfer saga continues, Barcelona seem set to hold on to Philippe Coutinho after the English transfer window closed on Thursday.
Manchester United and Tottenham had been allegedly keen on signing the struggling Brazilian playmaker this summer.
“It’s his choice. He has to speak with his family, he has to be happy [here] to stay [here]. I think he’s happy,” said Arthur.
“I hope he stays because he’s a top player and a great friend, too. He’s been happy. He’s working hard, as we all are, and I think he has everything [needed] to stay here and to help us a lot.”
Barcelona will take on Napoli for another friendly on Saturday in Michigan.
