Marco Asensio ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and only played for Real Madrid after the fixture list was moved due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Zinedine Zidane was dealt a blow when Marco Asensio was taken off the pitch in pre-season. Los Blancos won the tie against Arsenal on penalties in the International Champions Cup but were left handicapped.

Asensio would return to Real Madrid’s first-team in the latter half of the 2019/20 campaign. Zidane was pleased with his return as he froze out Gareth Bale out of the dressing room.

Reflecting on his season, the Mallorca youth academy graduate was pleased with the team’s collective efforts. Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga in the 2019/20 campaign. Triumphs that the 24-year-old will never forget.

Asensio admitted it was a tough season for him but vowed to come back strongly in the coming campaign.

“A different 2019-2020 season comes to an end, it’s been different and difficult for everyone but we achieved to win the Spanish Supercup and a peculiar Liga title, which we will never forget,” Ascensio wrote in his Instagram post.

“Personally, it’s been a season full of obstacles and a very tough one, but it gave me a beautiful reward for my hard work. Now it’s time to rest and I will be back stronger next season. Thank you for your support.”
