Aston Villa manager Dean Smith says his side would have scored more goals but maintains he is okay with the final result.

Aston Villa encountered Ipswith yesterday and left them with a 2-1 defeat.

“We could have won five or six nil or 2-1 today it didn’t matter it was about getting a result and getting the win at home which I thought we thoroughly deserved today,” he told Birmingham Mail

“It was comfortable until Freddie Sears stuck one in the top corner and then we probably had a four or five minute spell of panic, of trying to get over the line.

“But then the last five minutes I thought we sorted it out really well. I’m disappointed it wasn’t as emphatic as it should have been.

Nugent is proud of Derby County’s determination

The team will play against Aston Villa in the English Championship Playoff Final at Wembley Stadium for a chance to participate in the Premier League.

“Tammy should have been walking away with his 20th and 21st goals today and John McGinn should also be walking away with two or three with the chances he’s had.

“So we’ve had a number of chances today and if we’re more clinical we would have made the game a lot more comfortable.

“That said, we’ve got some players coming back it was great to get Mile on the pitch today.

“We’re hoping to do some deals before Thursday as well.

“We needed to get that win today and I thought we thoroughly deserved it.”
