La Dea started the season in the same manner they finished last, scoring five past a hapless Parma side akin to their thrashing of AC Milan a fortnight ago.
AC Milan did not expect a resounding defeat but were subjected to one by Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta BC. Parma were forewarned but did not learn anything from the Rossoneri’s mistakes.
In the wake of Dejan Kulusevski’s impending 35 million Euros departure, the hosts reigned supreme on the night. A 3-0 first half lead was secured thanks to Alejandro Gomez, Remo Freuler, and Robin Gosens.
Josip Illic would add further misery to Roberto D’Aversa’s side, scoring a second half brace to make it 5-0.
Gomez was the star of the night, pulling the strings for his side. He opened the scoring and provided the assist for Freuler’s second, finishing the fixture with 6 chances created.
The win allowed Atalanta to close the gap on 4th placed AS Roma. The Romans were thrashed at home by the visiting Torino, and a point separated the two sides.
Parma could have closed the gap with 6th place Cagliari. The canaries were resoundingly beaten by a Cristiano Ronaldo inspired Juventus, givning Parma a chance. They are consigned to 7th placed with challenge from Napoli after defeat to Atalanta.
