The signature of Athletico Paranaense player Bruno Guimaraes is apparently a two way battle between Arsenal and Benfica.

According to Athletico Paranaense president Mario Celso Petraglia he has one firm bid and confirmation of interest in the player.

Guimaraes is a 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder.

He has already made 84 appearances for Paranaense, scoring seven goals and adding five assist in the process.

It was widely believed that La Liga side Atletico Madrid had the first refusal on the player.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Petraglia confirmed they were out of the race.

He said:

“Atletico Madrid have already informed Athletico Paranaense that they are not interested in the player.”

However, he did confirm that the club had a firm offer from Benfica that was under consideration. Also, that arsenal had proposed a deal to take place in the summer.

He added:

“Yes, it is true that Benfica has made an offer.”

“Yesterday, Benfica’s official proposal to hire Bruno Guimaraes arrived.”

“We are going to study Benfica’s proposal.”

“On Monday, we will meet the club’s management to assess this situation.”

“Arsenal are interested but will only make an offer towards the end of the season.”

It’s clear to see why he is attracting interest.
