Atletico Madrid dropped points yet again after a 2-2 draw with Valencia in La Liga.
Diego Simeone’s Atletico made the trip to Valencia for La Liga’s Friday night game.
Llorente gave Simeone’s men the lead after just 15 minutes. It was a relief for Simeone, who had hoped to have Alvaro Morata back in his starting line up.
Angel Correa hit the initial shot, which hit Valencia’s Gabriel. Llorente was on hand to prod the ball home.
Gabriel made up for his faux pas in the 40th minute, when he scored Valencia’s equalizer.
Maxi Gomez whipped the ball in and Gabriel headed home for 1-1.
There was still enough time before the break for Los Rojiblancos to regain the lead.
This time it was Thomas. The midfielder hit a well-driven shot from 20 yards out to make 1-2 at the break to Simeone’s men.
The home side even though they were trailing, asserted themselves well and dominated possession.
They eventually got their just reward when Kondogbia scored the equalizer right before the hour mark.
Both sides had half-chances before the 90 minutes were up. But the game played out to what both teams will consider a disappointing draw.
Atletico could have climbed up to third with a win, while Valencia could have climbed above Atletico if they had got the result.
Instead, they sit fourth and sixth respectively.
