With Antoine Griezmann set for a departure from the capital club, Diego Simeone has identified Ante Rebic as the Frenchman’s replacement,
As reported by Daily Mail, Ante Rebic is Simeone’s preferred candidate to replace Antoine Griezmann. The France international has already said that he wants to leave the club. The likes of Barcelona and Manchester United have been credited with interest in the former Real Sociedad man.
And Atletico have already started making preparations for the forward’s departure. Ante Rebic was linked with a move away from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer but chose to stay. This time around however, the Croatian international is willing to leave Germany as he looks to seek a fresh challenge.
The sale of Antoine Griezmann is going to load up the club’s coffers and a portion of that amount would be used to buy a suitable replacement.
And Ante Rebic isn’t going to cost the club a lot of money.
The importance of signing a great replacement is also imperative keeping in mind the recent exodus at the club. The residents of Wanda Metropolitano have already lost Diego Godin and Juan Fran. The likes of Griezmann and Filipe Luis are also looking for a way out. Moreover, shot-stopper, Jan Oblak is agitating for a move to Manchester United due to broken promises.
Ante Rebic was in impressive form for the Germans last season and played a crucial role as Frankfurt reached the semifinal of the Europa League where they lost on penalties to eventual champions Chelsea.
Although Frankfurt would loath to lose Rebic following the sale of Luka Jovic to Real Madrid, the club knows that it cannot keep a player who wants to leave.
And to make things a little more interesting, Atletico Madrid face competition for his signing from Internazionale who are also looking at their striking options.
