Atletico Madrid looking to hold on to Rodri

The La Liga giants are desperate to hold on to Rodri who has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich throughout the summer

Atletico Madrid are in quite a pickle at the moment. Rodri is the latest player linked with an exit.

The residents of Wanda Metroplitano are currently struggling to hold on to their star players. With Diego Godin having already left and Lucas Hernandez signing for Bayern Munich, the club is braced for more departures.

Star player, Antoine Griezmann is looking to jump ship. The same can be said of Filipe Luis. The club’s goalkeeper, Jan Oblak is also looking for a way out. Rodri for that matter, is also considering his future at the club amidst interest from Germany and England.

Should all these rumors become official, Atletico Madrid would have a tough time finding replacements in a single transfer window.

McCoist says Silva is one of Premier League greats

The Scottish football legend has said the Spanish midfielder is a "magical" playmaker, as he announced he will leave Manchester City.

Rodri would cost any club around €70 million which is not a huge amount for the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City. The German Bundesliga side need a better replacement for the ageing and injury prone Javi Martinez. Manchester City meanwhile, cannot rely on Fernandinho with the Brazilian on the wrong side of his 30s.

According to the Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid are trying everything in their power to hold on to their star player. The club’s hierarchy is aware of the crisis they will have to deal with if such an exodus happens. In order to avoid such a scenario, the capital club is willing to offer Rodri a significant pay rise that could convince him into staying put.

Rodri also wants to stay at the club but hasn’t given any assurances.

‘The only thing I can say is that I have a contract with Atletico Madrid, I have a clause, I have conditions and I’m happy here. I can’t say anything else because I don’t know what is going on.’
