Atletico’s marginal wins a cause of concern for Simeone

Diego Simeone maintains the primary reason for Atletico Madrid’s slump is showing lack of decisiveness in the final third of the pitch.

An own goal from Bruno Gonzales helped Atletico Madrid collect all three points against Levante in their most recent La Liga fixture on Monday.

Atletico have managed to win all but one of their post-lockdown matches, but that only serves as a deviation to the fact that they have had a subpar La Liga season.

13 of 31 league matches for the Rojiblancos have ended in a draw. Even out of the matches they have won, a good number of those have been with just a goal margin.

Currently occupying the third spot on the table, up next for them are Alaves. And Diego Simeone wants his side to display lethality on the attacking front.

As Marca reports, he said: “We’ve often not been able to close out games and end up drawing, which has cost us lots of points.

“The same thing happened against Valladolid. And we’re always saying, football is strength [in finishing chances] and that gives you margin to play at the end of matches.

“The 1-0 wins are difficult to sustain. The search [for goals] is there. Sometimes we finish well and others not.”
