Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has put all contract negotiations on hold at Arsenal, after hearing Barcelona consider him as a Luis Suarez replacement.
Gabon international Aubameyang was recently made the captain of the club and has been enjoying a rich vein of form at the Emirates Stadium.
The club has been surrounded in inner turmoil, and the football has been somewhat indifferent so far this season.
It was thought Aubameyang was simply delaying to see the club’s position at the end of the season before committing long term.
His main objective is to play Champions League football.
However, it now appears his head may have been turned by a bigger and better opportunity.
Barcelona themselves, through director Eric Abidal, have said they are actively looking for his successor, and the player himself is under no illusions his career at the Camp Nou is nearing its end.
Aubameyang has apparently been given the inclination that he is on Barca’s list of potential candidates.
Having learned this, he put a firm stop on the contract talks and asked his representatives to enquire about Barcelona’s level of interest.
