Donis Avdijaj reveals his biggest regret in football after turning down both Liverpool and Real Madrid only now to end up without a club.
Donis Avdijaj was a prodigious talent and as a youngster had the chance to go to either Liverpool or Real Madrid.
The now clubless player reveals how he opted for the Bundesliga and Schalke.
His career and development never really took off in Germany at the first-team level. Avdijaj has since bounced around with short-term deals in Holland, Turkey, and even in Scotland with Hearts.
Still only 23 years of age but now without a club, he admits he has some serious regrets.
Speaking to Sport1, he said:
“I also had one from Real Madrid.”
“I’ve never doubted myself. I am still convinced of myself. In most of my past stations, the sporting side speaks for itself.”
“I convinced athletically in the Netherlands. After a long break without football, I played 20 games at Trabzonspor and almost played through in the Europa League.”
“I also had 10 or 12 games at Hearts and you don’t know how things would have gone if the coronavirus pandemic hadn’t intervened.”
The Kosovo international is convinced he can still get back to the top of the footballing tree.
“If I continue to believe in myself, train hard and play well in the next club, I’ll get back that little bit of luck that I might have been missing lately.”
“I already have a lot of requests from clubs. There are a lot of talks going on.”
Donis Avdijaj is of a similar age to some of Real’s most prodigious talent and we will never know what could have been. But we certainly know what being at the likes of Los Blancos can do for a wonderkid!
