Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has claimed his side’s urgency going forward was to blame as they lost by three goals to Sheffield United.
Azpilicueta admits Chelsea started the game poorly and were not decisive enough throughout the game.
Asides the scoreline itself, that result put Chelsea in a tough spot and sees their top-four hopes very shaky as it stands.
Chelsea dominated a big chunk of possession but Azpilicueta concedes their decision making cost them a heavy defeat.
“It was really bad since the kick-off,” the defender said to the club’s website.
. “They put the long ball and we gave straight away a corner. So we were not ready to compete.”
“We knew that they are a very organised team, that they know very well what they have to do, and to be fair we didn’t find spaces.”
“They are a well organised team, they don’t concede many goals,” Azpilicueta added.
“But we were not sharp enough, we were not quick enough to move the ball to find the attacking players in good positions. We were quite flat on the passes, going sideways, backwards.”
Chelsea might still have a lot to do before they can start winning trophies again. Azpilicueta thinks so too.
