Azpilicueta wants to help Chelsea youngsters

Cesar Azpilicueta says that Frank Lampard can trust senior players to help out the club’s younger players next season.

Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to see a drastic change at the club next season. With Frank Lampard back as a manager and a transfer ban hovering above, Chelsea will be relying a lot on the club’s academy products.

While this could be a promising sign for those young players, expectations would naturally be reasonable bearing in mind that many of these players would be playing regularly for the club for the first time.

However, Cesar Azpilicueta has said that him and the rest of the senior players are eager to help out the younger players. And after spending so much time in London, the Spain international knows how much help the club’s academy can give.

“All the senior players, we are happy and we are trying to help all of them.

“Frank knows the young players very well. His staff have been working with a lot of youngsters through the years,” he said according to Evening Standard.

Lampard hails ‘superstar’ Mo Salah after Chelsea nightmare

Frank Lampard praised the way his old Chelsea team-mate Mohamed Salah bounced from his disappointing Blues stint to become a "superstar".

And Azpilicueta knows that the players have a great chance to step up.

“We have the best academy in England and, obviously, it is a chance for all of them to step up and to see them in the first team.”

And Lampard says that the team is on the right track even though fitness is an issue.

“Fitness was our issue. I wanted to stretch them a bit and put them under pressure,” Lampard said.

“This is what pre-season is all about — and the quicker we get there, to the level we want, then the better.

“We wanted to win the game, as you always do, but it is not about that. It is about individuals getting fit and pushing themselves to the limit and I thought some of the performances, particularly from the younger lads, were really good.”
