Gareth Bale is still ‘very important’ for Real Madrid and a top-three player when he is at his very best, says teammate Casemiro.
Bale’s future at Real Madrid has been one of constant uncertainty ever since Zinedine Zidane returned in March 2019.
The Frenchman clearly no longer rates Bale, having restricted him to a bit-part role this season. In fact, the winger made just 20 appearances in all competitions.
He was close to a big-money move to China last summer, only for Real Madrid to pull out of the deal. His agent, Jonathan Barnett, later revealed the Chinese club, believed to be Jiangsu Suning, couldn’t match the board’s asking price.
A year later, however, and one can’t help but wonder whether Real Madrid should’ve taken whatever they were offered.
Bale is no longer a regular and is more renown for his exploits on the bench rather than the pitch lately.
But Casemiro is certain the Wales international still has a future in the Spanish capital ahead of the club’s Champions League clash with Manchester City on Friday.
The Brazilian ace told Esporte Interativo on Bale: “He’s working.
“He knows it’s not the best time in his career, but he has our support, that of the coach and of the club.”
“He’s very important for us, he can spring a surprise at any time and he’s already shown that. He’s a decisive player who scores goals in Champions League finals.”
“We have to be honest and say that he’s not at his best, but when he is he’s incredible and in the top three in the world. I have a lot of love for him and that’s why I try to take care of him as much as I can.”
On the other hand, Casemiro wasn’t quite so forthcoming on his future it seems.
