Gareth Bale boasts better statistics and trophy collection than Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Luis Figo which makes his criticism unfair, says Robbie Savage.

Despite being one of the most influential players for Real Madrid in recent times, Gareth Bale has been subjected to criticism by the fans throughout his spell at the club.

Bale broke Cristiano Ronaldo‘s record of being the most expensive player when he arrived at the Spanish capital in the summer of 2013.

From being a key player in Los Blancos’ three successive Champions League victories to scoring the winning goal in the 2014 Copa del Rey final, Bale has usually stepped up when it mattered the most. Scoring 105 goals, his record stacks up against some of the very best in the history of the club.

And Robbie Savage believes his fellow countryman deserves more appreciation than what he gets while naming him as the most under-appreciated player of the last 20 years.

“He’s scored 105 goals in all competitions, 13 trophies, three goals in Champions League finals, including the spectacular overhead kick against Liverpool. He’s also got one in a penalty shootout,” Savage told during a Twitter Q&A.

“So Gareth Bale has got more goals and more trophies than those three [Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, and Ronaldo Luis].

“So, for me, Gareth Bale has to be the most underappreciated player at any club, by the fans in the last 20 years.”
