Jonathan Barnett admits Real Madrid were in talks with a Chinese club to ship off Gareth Bale but the deal fell through.

Gareth Bale was recently caught up in another controversy as he drove off even before the match ended during Real Madrid’s defeat to Real Sociedad.

Last year, the Welshman was reported to be on the verge of exit from Real Madrid in the favor of a big-money move to the Chinese Super League and the Bale’s agent recently claimed that there was truth in the rumors.

Jonathan Barnett revealed that the prospective buyers were planning on making Bale the best-paid player in the world. Bale too was interested in the transfer but Real Madrid declined after they failed to match their asking price.

“He got an offer that was impossible to refuse. But Real Madrid wouldn’t sell him. They [the Chinese club] couldn’t pay what Madrid wanted,” he told AS.

“He wanted to create a legacy, he wanted to bring Chinese football up. He had a vision that he could make Chinese football great. He’s won everything that he can win, and he’s done it many times.

“It was to create a legacy, his name, to be the first great player to go to China. But it wasn’t to be… And the money was special too. It would have made him the highest-paid player on Earth.
