Michael Ballack admits it’s logical that Kai Havertz follows in his footsteps and makes the switch from Bayer Leverkusen, but when the time is right.
20-year-old Kai Havertz is one of the hottest properties in the Bundesliga. His form since he joined Leverkusen first team has caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs.
Munich have a reputation of snapping up the best homegrown talent. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has not escaped their sights either.
Retired German international and former Chelsea man Michael Ballack made a similar switch early on in his career.
While Ballack admits it is the most logical move for the youngster, he needs to be patient.
Speaking to Sport 1 he is adamant that Havertz must not move too early as the repercussions could be detrimental to his young career.
“If the Bavarians act in perspective and you still have the claim to get the best German players, Havertz has to be brought in.”
“At Bayern, you need other characteristics to assert yourself. Just being good is not enough there.”
“[Havertz needs] time and the robustness to be mentally prepared for Bayern.”
“He is still in the development phase and still has mistakes in his game.”
Unfortunately, sentimentality and logic have little place in football. The money will decide the player’s next move and when it takes place.
