Philippe Coutinho’s form keeps dwindling by the day in Barcelona and further took another twist when fans booed him in their 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.
The Brazilian midfielder had a shoulder to lean on after the game as the manager and Barcelona players psyched him up with some positive comments.
Following his big-money move from Liverpool, Coutinho has failed to live up to the billing at the Camp Nou.
And that has resulted in a confidence crisis which reflects every passing week.
After the game, Ernesto Valverde leapt to the defence of his player, stating that he had done his part for the team.
“We always want him to pull a rabbit out of the hat, but his work is there. He’s persevering,” the coach revealed via Marca.
Coutinho’s teammates tried their best to encourage him during the tie, with Arturo Vidal geeing him on each time they crossed paths same with former Red Luis Suarez.
After the game, Nelson Semedo sought to defend his teammate, saying that he was “going through a phase that we all go through”.
Gerard Pique also defended him in his post-match interview. “Obviously his cost was very high so that means there are more expectations of his performance level.

“It is what it is. We have to accept the reaction of the fans because they are our followers but from the inside, we have to give him our support.”
It is uncertain whether Coutinho will start the make or mar clash against Lyon in the Champions League.
