Antoine Griezmann says Barcelona were ineffective in the first half but were able to take advantage of Napoli’s tiredness in the second one.
Antoine Griezmann stepped up and gave Barcelona a crucial away goal to give his side an advantage when they face Napoli in the return leg of the Champions League Round of 16 match.
Dries Mertens scored at the hour-hour mark to put his team on the front foot. Napoli were the better side for the better part of the match and constantly threatened their opponents.
Both Barca and Lionel Messi were not exactly at their best but were able to get something out of the match through Griezmann.
After the match, the goalscorer suggested that he still feels a lack of connection with his teammates which is why he remained inactive in the first half.
“I have to create space and sometimes they see me and sometimes they don’t. In the first half, I didn’t do it much and in the second half we had more options,” Griezmann said as per Marca.
“We wanted to win, we gave our all and it wasn’t to be. It was hard for us at first to create and find spaces. I think we didn’t have a shot on target in the first half. Then we took advantage of their fatigue [in the second half].”
