Barcelona have confirmed that Lionel Messi has picked up a muscle injury in training while dismissing any fears over his prolonged absence.
Speculations concerning the possibility of him missing the return of La Liga started to surface when it was recently brought into light that Lionel Messi has been sitting out FC Barcelona’s training sessions.
The Argentine did not join the rest of the squad for training since Barcelona resumed group training on Tuesday. It was reported that he did, however, performed fitness routines individually.
Barcelona recently provided an update on their star player’s fitness. The club conceded that Messi is indeed carrying a discomfort in his thigh muscles, but the injury is not serious enough to keep him out of the clash against Mallorca on June 13.
“Barca captain Leo Messi has a minor right quadriceps injury and trained in isolation, doing specific exercises to avoid unnecessary risks with just eight days remaining before Barca finally get back to playing matches. He should be able to rejoin his team-mates in a few days’ time.”
Scoring 24 goals and providing 16 assists in 31 appearances in La Liga, Messi has been phenomenal for his side this season as they look to prevent Real Madrid from upsetting their title hopes.
