Barcelona could ask Juventus for De Ligt as they look to capitalize on the club’s interest in Arthur, per a report from Spain.
De Ligt gained prominence with Ajax last season and saw his stock rise as one of the world’s best young defenders.
Barcelona set their sights on a young Ajax team and made a move to sign the 20-year-old alongside Frenkie De Jong from the Dutch side.
The latter joined Barcelona last summer but De Ligt eventually ended up at Juventus.
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan side still remain interested in the bullish defender and might have a route to capitalize on.
As per the report, De Ligt rejected an offer to join Barcelona last summer and opted to sign for Juventus after advice from agent Mino Raiola and also from fears he wouldn’t have been a first team player in Spain.
And now, Juventus are interested in signing Arthur Melo, which could see Barca ask for their prized asset in return.
The report details Barcelona don’t have any reason to sell Arthur and would only do so if a good deal comes up, like a swap-deal involving De Ligt.
After a slow-start to life in Italy, the Dutchman eased to the club’s philosophy and was in decent form before the season got suspended.
With Giorgio Chiellini now 36 and Leonardo Bonucci about to turn 33, it remains unclear whether Juventus would even consider releasing a long-term defensive heir in De Ligt.
The report concludes that the former Ajax man is ‘looking forward’ to potential negotiations and has ‘never hidden his desire’ to play for Barca.
