Thanks to a goal from Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele during the last minutes, FC Barcelona was able to stay at the top of La Liga vs Rayo Vallecano.

There is no denying that having Lionel Messi makes a huge difference, but Barcelona still had Luis Suarez to fix their problems against Rayo Vallecano this Saturday.

The Catalan club made one of the most dangerous trips where they were going to risk losing points no matter what, the Catalan club really struggled against one of the teams from the bottom of the table and proved that La Liga is more alive than ever.

Having one of the allegedly worst clubs in Spain play this well against the reigning champions, is a great sign that this competition has come a long way and it can already compete against the Premier League to be recognized as the best league tournament in the world.

A few years back, having Barcelona or Real Madrid go through such a hard time to get three points against a “lesser” squad was unheard of but the competition has evolved.

Just by looking at the table and realize that only 9 points separate the first from the first positions teams, proves this point and speaks volumes of the effort that the clubs with less economic power are making in order to survive this competition against the giants of the league.

But for Barcelona, not having Lionel Messi was obviously going to expose them and take them through hell against any squad regardless of who they were. Today’s hero was none other than Uruguay international, Luis Suarez.

The South American striker is going through a sweet moment and he is having the comeback that we had been waiting for in the last couple of seasons, he was the one who opened the count for the Catalan club in Vallecas with an assist from Jordi Alba in the 11th minute of the game.

The Rayo players fought back before the halftime whistle with a goal by Jose Angel Pozo, which left the outcome of the game still undecided for the second half.

Alvaro Garcia surprised Valverde’s squad early in the second half with the second goal for his squad, which left the Catalan club against the ropes for the better part of the time that was left.

Only a miracle would save them from a certain defeat, that or a moment of brilliance from the club’s offensive players.

Fortunately for Barcelona, they have some very talented strikers with Dembele or Suarez himself and they got the last laugh during the final minutes of the game.

The French kid took a volley attempt with just three minutes left on the clock and tied the game, but Suarez wasn’t satisfied with this.

A long cross from Sergi Roberto sent from the right flank took everybody by surprise as Luis got there in time to bury the ball in the back of the net, he arrived just in time when everything appeared lost and gave the Catalan club their three points.

But the final five minutes of injury time were really difficult to endure for Barcelona, they also had the aid from Ter Stegen who made a terrific save in the very last minute that prevented Rayo from equalizing the match again.

This brace also gives Luis Suarez 9 goals on his personal count, which means that he is the provisional Pichichi of the competition as he passed through striker Iago Aspas from Celta, and compatriot Christian Stuani from Girona; both of these players have 8 goals in their personal counts.

Despite having a positive result on this match after suffering too much for their liking, we are certain that the Catalan club is counting the days for the return of Lionel Messi who is hurrying back to fitness and may appear against Internazionale Milano in a couple of days.
