Rumours over an alleged phone call to Neymar’s father were deemed false by Barcelona spokesman Josep Vives on Tuesday
Despite having only left in a record €222m deal for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, Neymar has been strongly linked with a return to Barcelona amid reports he’s unsettled at France.
Recently rumours emerged claiming that the Catalan giants had contacted Neymar’s father over discussing a possible reunion with his son.
But in a press conference on Tuesday, Vives shot down the rumours once and for all by announcing that Barcelona have made no call to Neymar Sr whatsoever.
“In the first place, that’s not the case, and Neymar left because that’s what he decided, and from there we have nothing more to say,” said Vives, according to Yahoo.
“We never talked about players who have contracts with other clubs, at the time he decided to leave Barca, a completely legitimate decision on his part.”
Both Neymar himself and his father recently came out themselves and branded the rumours as “fake”.
For now, however, Barcelona’s focus will be on Thursday’s second leg in their last-16 Copa del Rey tie with Levante where they hope to overturn a 2-1 deficit.
