Barcelona hope to be granted permission by the Royal Spanish Football Federation to make a signing outside the transfer window.
Last month, Barcelona announced that Luis Suarez would miss at least four months of action following his knee surgery.
Luis Suarez’s prolonged absence has put Barcelona in a fix and the club started to jot down names to replace him. Despite trying hard to get a makeshift hitman in January, Barca were unable to secure a signing.
Quique Setien earlier suggested that he will welcome Ousmane Dembele as a new signing for the club. But Barcelona were left frustrated when Dembele, who was expected to return soon, also suffered another injury setback in training.
In order to overcome their desperate situation, the Catalans now turn to the highest football authority in Spain – the RFEF.
According to ESPN, Barcelona are expecting to get special permission to sign a new player outside the transfer window.
If the RFEF accepts the club’s plea, Barcelona can only sign players registered with Spanish clubs or those who are free agents.
However, Barca will only be allowed to land a new player if Dembele stays on the sidelines for more than five months.
As per sources, Barca have a limit of €12 million. And Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez is one of the most viable signing options.
