Barcelona eyeing January move for Aubameyang

FC Barcelona are keen on signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in order to keep their title hopes alive.

FC Barcelona suffered a huge blow after Luis Suarez was ruled out of action for at least six months after suffering a knee injury. The striker is set to miss both the legs of Barcelona’s Champions League Round of 16 clash against Napoli.

At 32 years of age, Suarez is also reaching the twilight of his career. The Catalans, considering his potential decline, were anyhow looking to find a replacement for him.

As a result, Barcelona are eyeing Arsenal striker Piere-Emerick Aubameyang. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugranas consider Aubameyang as their preferred target to replace injury-ridden striker Luis Suarez. The report also suggests that Barca have also shortlisted Valencia’s Rodrigo but Aubameyang makes the cut due to his pace.

The 30-year old has scored 14 goals in 22 Premier League games so far. He also has two more in Arsenal’s Europa League campaign. Considering his stats and decisiveness in front of goal, the former Dortmund man would fit right in Quique Setien’s system to give Barca the edge.

Arsenal legend and pundit Paul Merson also belives the club could let the skipper go if Barcelona will be able able to meet their demands.

“I think if they got £70million or £80m for him, I think they’d sell him. I do,” he said previously as per Express.

“That’s not because he’s not a good player, because he’s a good goalscorer.”
