Barcelona have been granted permission to sign a new striker outside the transfer window.

FC Barcelona were left devastated after failing to land attacking reinforcements following striker Luis Suarez’s knee injury back in January.

Ousmane Dembele’s return from injury gave manager Quique Setien a window of hope. But, even before making it to the pitch, Dembele suffered another setback during training and was forced to return to get medical attention.

As a result, Barcelona filed a request to La Liga to grant them special permission to sign a new player.

In Spain, the legislation states that clubs can be allowed to make signings outside the transfer window if one of their players gets injured for at least five months.

Barca do meet the necessary requirements as Dembele will miss out on the remainder of the season.

Hence, as Goal reports, the authorities have permitted Barca to go ahead and make a new signing. However, they are only allowed a 15-day period for their emergency signing. Moreover, as per RFEF rulings, Barca are only limited to signing a free agent or a player from La Liga.

With only €12 million to spend, Barcelona do not have many options to chose from. Among the top transfer targets are Alaves’ Lucas Perez and Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez.
