Barcelona have announced that one of their players has been diagnosed with coronavirus and has been sent into quarantine.
On Tuesday, FC Barcelona conducted coronavirus tests on nine of their players – Pedri, Trincao, Matheus Fernandes, Jean-Clair Todibo, Moussa Wague, Carles Alena, Rafinha, Juan Miranda, and Oriol Busquets.
Each of the nine players is either a new signing or making it back from loan spells elsewhere. They were returning to the club’s training ground for medical checks ahead of the pre-season training on Wednesday.
One of those players was tested positive for coronavirus. Barca refused to reveal the identity of the player but did provide assurance that he is asymptomatic and ‘in good health.’
Thankfully, none of those players came in contact with the senior team, who will travel to Lisbon this Thursday for the Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich.
A statement on the medical report released on the club’s official website read: “Following PCR tests conducted this Tuesday afternoon on the group of nine players due to begin the pre-season today, one of them has tested positive for Covid-19.
“The player has no symptoms, is in good health and has been quarantined at his home.
“The player has not been in contact with any of the senior team players who are scheduled to travel to Lisbon this Thursday to compete in the Champions League.”
