Josep Bartomeu has revealed that there is “no Neymar case” for Barcelona as Paris Saint Germain are simply unwilling to sell him.
Following an injury-plagued two years at PSG, Neymar made it clear he wishes to return to Barcelona this summer.
The Brazilian superstar has been unhappy with life in France from pretty much the moment he arrived in 2017. Therefore, his representatives had been working hard to seal a remarkable Camp Nou comeback.
But reports last weekend revealed that PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaïf and the board members planned to deny Neymar’s wish of a return to Barcelona.
With the uncertain future of Kylian Mbappe and the fact they spent €222m on Neymar just two years ago, PSG were convinced that selling their prized asset was simply not an option altogether.
Now, Bartomeu has delivered the final blow to Neymar by confessing Barcelona cannot do anything if PSG are unwilling to play ball.
“We know Neymar wants to leave PSG but we also know that PSG don’t want to sell, so there’s no Neymar case,” said Bartomeu, according to Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, the Blaugrana chief confirmed they have entered talks with Atletico Madrid over signing Antoine Griezmann.
“Yesterday, we had a meeting between (executive director of Barcelona) Oscar Grau and (Atletico Madrid board member) Miguel Angel Gil to talk about Antoine Griezmann,” said Bartomeu.
“I cannot say any more.”
He added: “Situations change from one year to the next and this doesn’t mean he’s definitely coming to Barcelona. We are interested, but stating he’ll come here is another matter.”
On the bright side, though, Bartomeu confirmed that Barcelona will retain Ousmane Dembele for next season.
The 22-year-old forward had been allegedly been considered as part of a trade deal to convince PSG of selling Neymar.
“Dembele is young, talented, offers something different,” said Bartomeu.
“I consider him better than Neymar. He has so much room to grow and we want him to do it here.”
