Barcelona are reportedly ready to accelerate their interest in the Manchester City dynamo Bernardo Silva.
Silva has endured a bit underwhelming season at the Etihad by his standards, and Barcelona are hopeful of benefiting from his current situation at Manchester City.
Only last season, Pep Guardiola singled out the 25-year-old as an irreplaceable first-team player and City’s most consistent performer.
However, things have changed this term as the Portuguese star struggled for regular first-team opportunities due to the Spaniard’s continuous squad rotations.
Indeed, Silva managed just 23 Premier League starts in 2019/20 and was only used as a late substitute in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
As reported by the Sports Illustrated, Barcelona are willing to test Silva’s resolve in the summer, as Quique Setien looks to complete at least high-profile signing.
Former Monaco utility man can cover multiple positions higher up the pitch, which makes him a quite valuable asset for Guardiola.
However, his versatility is also appreciated at Camp Nou, particularly in light of Antoine Griezmann’s mediocre first season in Catalonia.
Additionally, Martin Braithwaite is likely to leave Barcelona this summer, while Ousmane Dembele can’t catch a break since coming from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
The French winger has spent much time on the sidelines and could be on his way out of the club when the transfer market reopens for business.
