After finally landing Frenkie de Jong’s transfer for next summer, FC Barcelona won’t stop until they have also sealed the deal for Matthijs de Ligt.

At the very start of the season, there was a number of publications that talked constantly about FC Barcelona signing both Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt as a duo.

After the midfielder was announced earlier this week, the Catalan club has already secured one of the two players they were after and they are now ready to keep their assault on the other main target.

Defender Matthijs de Ligt recently spoke to NU Sport after his teammate Frenkie was announced, he revealed that he is feeling very happy for the decision De Jong has made and he didn’t deny the rumors that still tie him to FC Barcelona.

The player knows that trying to go against those rumors can only make things worse for him, so he decided to keep working hard on the squad and just wait for any possible development about his future to fall into his lap.

The whole negotiation process might prove to be even more complicated than Frenkie’s because the “cat’s out of the bag” in regards to Barcelona’s intentions, and several other clubs are also after Ajax’s young skipper.

While talking to NU Sport about the possibility of signing a new contract with Barcelona, Matthijs de Ligt revealed the following: “I can’t stop journalists from discussing the rumors, that is part of football,” said De Ligt on NU Sport.

“Now that Frenkie has sealed his transfer, rumors about me getting stronger is a possibility but all I care about is playing my games for Ajax right now and that is the only thing I care about at the moment.”

“I will just keep doing my thing and everything will be okay. I do think that any player would love to play for a club like FC Barcelona sometime in his career.”

“We will see where I end up, right now I’m happy at Ajax and I hope I can have a great season here. Or maybe even more than just one season.”

“I think it’s great for Frenkie to play for FC Barcelona. He deserves it and it’s fantastic for him to finally be able to stop talking about the affair, although his transfer negotiations didn’t really affect his concentration with us.”

Van Persie says Ajax are favorites against Spurs

The Feyenoord footballer believes Ajax has what it takes to win against Tottenham Hotspur and play in the UEFA Champions League Final.

“My replacement? Lisandro Magallan has proved that he is an experienced player, he knows exactly what the club wants from him as a defender,” he concluded.

For FC Barcelona signing Matthijs won’t be easy at all because the rest of the clubs that were after Frenkie de Jong, will obviously double down on De Ligt as some of them considered that the Catalan club beat them to the punch in the race to sign the midfielder.

Paris Saint-Germain in specific is very troubled against Barcelona, as they have not only beaten them to sign De Jong but they have also rattled the cage with Adrien Rabiot and practically forced the player to not sign a new contract extension.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi has the plan of going after Philipe Coutinho next summer according to Diario Sport, he wants to take one of the best players the Catalan club has and find a replacement for all the missing midfielder the French club has at the moment.

They will not only come after the Brazilian, but they will also attempt to take De Ligt out of Barcelona’s hands if they can.

To those who don’t remember, this whole war between both clubs started when FC Barcelona tried to sign Italian Marco Verratti and wasn’t able to complete the deal.

PSG then came to sign Neymar in revenge for that, and Barcelona now has landed the second blow against PSG.
