Josep Maria Bartomeu shared that Barcelona are actively reinforcing the first team with seven new additions expected to be part of the Camp Nou dressing room.

Every summer transfer window, Barcelona are linked with footballing talents. This transfer window is no different.

The Catalans added Antoine Griezmann last time around and the club are linked with a host of top players from Europe’s top five leagues.

This transfer window appears to be different. Barcelona have admitted that they are facing financial setbacks due to coronavirus pandemic. However, Jose Mario Bartomeu has good news for Cules.

The Barcelona president shared that the first team will have seven new additions, as deals made in January come to fruition. He also pointed to the swap deal with Juventus that brings Miralem Pjanic to Catalonia.

“We have seven new players. In January, Barca made a series of bets for the future and since we did so, people are seeing the quality they have,” Standard quoted Bartomeu.

“Pedri, who is a young player with an incredible talent. [Francisco] Trincao who was very little known, we signed in January and he’s now the best Under-21 player in Europe.

“And Matheus Fernandes, who has played very little because he has had problems with his paperwork, he now has them sorted. He has had just a few appearances, but quality ones, with Valladolid.

“And [Miralem] Pjanic is a player who will come and will be consolidated in the first team from the first minute.”

B team promotion

In addition, a host of Barcelona B players will be promoted to the first team. Bartomeu believes they have the quality and will be given a chance next season.

“There’s a lot of excitement about the players from Barca B who are coming up.

“There’s [Ronald] Araujo, a centre-back who will surely have a place in the first team [squad], plus Riqui Puig and Ansu Fati.”

As Bartomeu makes dressing room additions, Abidal is looking to off-load first team outcast Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian is on his way out and was advised by Rivaldo to return to Premier League.
