There is no doubt regarding the future of Lionel Messi at Camp Nou, according to the Catalans’ chief.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that Lionel Messi is already playing under new contract with the club. The Argentine reportedly agreed on a new four-year deal with Valverde’s side, but has not signed any papers with the La Liga giants yet.
While the slow negotiations process simply fuels rumours about the future of Messi in Spain, Barcelona’s president has assured the fans that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will remain at the club.
“We will take the photo with Messi’s signature, hopefully before the end of the year, but the contract has been signed by his father, who has the power of his image rights,” Bartomeu told 8TV .
“This contract is signed until 2021 and he is already playing under it.”
Another player who has also been a subject of speculations when it comes to signing a new contract is Andrés Iniesta. A few weeks ago Bartomeu stated that the Spaniard has agreed terms to a new deal, but Iniesta denied those claims, insisting there is no agreement between the two sides. Yet, according to the Catalans’ president, Iniesta will put pen to paper sooner or later.
“The agreement with Iniesta will be special, it will be different just because it is him. I won’t reveal exactly what because it is part of private negotiations, but with Ramon Sostres, we have been talking for a long time.
He added: “Iniesta isn’t just a reference point for us, but also for the young supporters, he has earned the right to play here until he decides not to any more, Andrés is critical to this club and the intention is that this extension will be an indefinite contract so that he can finish whenever he desires.”
