A former Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder made unexpected selections while making a team of the best players from the past year.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were both left out from Bastien Schweinsteiger’s FIFA 21 Team of the Year.
FIFA nominated 70 of the best performing players over the past 12 months.
Fans have to cast votes for the player they think should make the best XI, and 11 players that receive the highest number of votes in their respective position will make the team.
FIFA will also release special cards for each of the selected players. The cards will be put into packs next week and made playable for FIFA players.
However, fans are not only ones building their Team of the Year as Schweinsteiger has also picked his best XI – a controversial one at that.
Bastian Schweinsteiger’s FIFA 21 Team of the Year (3-4-3)
Marquinhos – Van Dijk – Ramos
Kimmich – De Bruyne – Henderson (C) – Guerreiro
Mbappe – Lewandowski – Neymar
