Mauro Icardi is having an exceptional season with Inter and interest around him is high.

The Argentinian is the team captain at Giuseppe Meazza and their most in-form player. Icardi scored 11 goals in the first 12 rounds of the Serie A season and is one of the best strikers in Europe currently. His performances in Italy have also earned him a call-up to the national team, having impressed Jorge Sampaoli.

And now, according to Calciomercato, Bayern Munich have become interested in the player: “His performances are closely monitored by Bayern, who are evaluating his transfer release clause.”

The Bavarians are testing the Mauro Icardi lead in a moment when Robert Lewandowski is more unsettled than ever. The Polish striker has recently criticised his club’s strategy in the transfer market and appears tempted to leave the club soon. Real Madrid are reportedly interested in his services and if Lewandowski were to leave Bayern, the German champions would immediately turn to Mauro Icardi.

However, even if they don’t sell Lewandowski, Bayern could be looking to bring in a striker either way. The Polish striker claimed multiple times that the club needs another striker, in order to allow him some time off every now and then: “It would be good if I could have more rest time. At the moment, there is no other option for the striker position, but no player can play 90 minutes every three days for a whole season”, Lewandowski said according to Kicker.

Currently, Icardi’s release clause is €110m, but Inter would like to raise that to €150m after the recent interest shown in their player by multiple major clubs in Europe, especially Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.
