Rafael Benitez admitted that he was very surprised and upset after his side’s performance in a shocking 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion and he didn’t see that coming after the last great performances.

The Magpies managed to avoid the relegation by making an impressive run of great results but this game was not the best one for them as they were beaten by last-placed West Brom after a bad performance.

The Spaniard spoke about his side’s effort as he said, according to Chronicle Live:

“Everything we did in the last few games, we didn’t do.”

“We wanted to get more points to finish higher in the table, but we didn’t do well today, we made a lot of mistakes, and we weren’t good enough.”

“We didn’t think the job was done, but it’s a pity because we’ve had a good season, but we want to finish better, too.”

“I congratulate the players for a good season, but we need to be better than today.”
