Ismael Bennacer is reveling in the Regista role at AC Milan and is happy to be central to much of the club’s play in midfield.
Bennacer is excelling in his new-found role for the club and has expressed his willingness to get even better in that position.
The 22-year-old currently plays the Regista role under Stefano Pioli, a position Italian legend Andrea Pirlo once excelled in during his time.
Bennacer might not score many goals or create them but he has been crucial to the club’s upturn in form towards the end of the season.
Since Pirlo departed Milan in 2011, no one has ever really stepped up to fill the hole he left in midfield for the Rossoneri.
After a successful season in that position, Bennacer is eager to improve and even build on his current displays in midfield.
“I like everything about this role because you’re at the heart of everything,” Bennacer told The Athletic.
“It’s my second year playing in Italy as a Regista. I’m still working at it. I think I’m improving. I’m definitely learning a lot.”
His brilliant displays have seen him linked to the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City but AC Milan have no intention to sell him.
Stefano Pioli has heaped praise on Bennacer a number of times and it appears the midfielder is central to his future plans at the club.
