The French forward’s heroics in EL Clasico has helped him match an achievement only a handful of Los Blancos stars have managed.
Karim Benzema was on target when Real Madrid edged past FC Barcelona at the Alfredo di Stefano in La Liga on Saturday.
He opened the scoring at the 13th minute, putting the ball into the back of the net with a cheeky backheel on Lucas Vazquez’s pass. Toni Kroos then doubled his side’s about a quarter of an hour later to seal a 2-1 victory.
Benzema’s goal saw him extend his goalscoring run to seven straight La Liga matches – a feat only three Real Madrid players have managed before, namely Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale.
Ronaldo managed the feat four times, Van Nistelrooy achieved it in 2007, and Bale in 2018.
With 19 goals in 26 league appearances and 25 in 25 across all competitions, the former Lyon man has been in scintillating form this season and is on course to enjoy the most productive season of his career so far.
