Bernardo Silva’s bad Man City form may be my fault, admits Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has admitted he is also to blame for the poor form shown by Bernardo Silva so far this season. It pales in comparison with his form last term.

Pep Guardiola insists Bernardo Silva remains one of the most special players he has managed despite his poor form.

A return of five goals and seven assists so far this term is actually no cause for concern. But comparing it to the Portuguese’s numbers and performances last season, there is an obvious decline.

Bernardo Silva was one of the stars for City last term and was even voted their player of the season.

This term, his place in the starting lineup has not been guaranteed in any way. The rise of Phil Foden hasn’t made things any better for the 25-year-old.

Guardiola has now hailed the Portuguese midfielder and concedes he is also to blame for Silva and his poor form.

“That’s true maybe he didn’t play as much as last season,” Guardiola said as quoted by Goal

“This season, maybe it was my fault or maybe Phil was more involved and Riyad maintained his level and the other players played good too.

“They know the competition they have with each other, but my admiration, respect, especially my opinion about him, nothing has changed.

“He’s (Silva) a special player for me. One of the most special players I had in my career as a manager, the relationship I have with him.”

City might have faltered in the Premier League this term but Bernardo Silva still has his eyes on the Champions League trophy.
